African Decor & Safari Art

Africa has produced a large diverse art in its history all the way up to today. Much of the art and African décor has a religious or ceremonial meaning, but it’s not easy to determine the function of all artwork and home decor. Some of the crafts are hard to describe as art because they were made for the purpose of religious ceremonies and beliefs. Historically artists in African tribes had a very high status but still not the equivalent of the fine western style artists who sell their art to the marketplace and regulate their production. From as early as 7000 BC there have been African art in the form of rock drawings which include such images of animals and hunters. Still today tribal art has become a way of differentiating one tribe from another and African tribal art can take the form of scars on the body, painting of the body and sculptured masks that are used in religious ceremonies.
